The glazing stage can cause the most trouble and unpleasant surprises, both at the stage of applying and firing glazed objects.

The best practice before applying your glazes to large batches of bisque is to make glazes sample board with small strips of bisque fired clay - thats the best way to get to know your colours and check for any possible glaze problems as blisters or cracks before firing large batches of work. 

Here’s the example of the board I made recently for the pottery. 

All I used was MDF board cut to size, which I decided to paint pure white for nice contrast and  ready made wooden pegs you can order online. Then drilled the holes, hammered them in one by one and Voila!

Each of the clay strips is marked with the glaze colour and clay number. 

I like to make few variations of the same colour on different types of clay as all can give you different results.
